After lockdown, The Metropolitan Museum of Art was looking for ways to boost visitation. They set their sights on a demographic that’s always challenging to engage—kids. It's no surprise 8-to-13 year olds, digital natives, are more interested in being on their phone and gaming than learning about art.
So instead of fighting the phone, we leaned into it—creating the first ever real-world Roblox avatar collection that brings the metaverse to the physical halls of The Met.

An app sent kids on an interactive, educational scavenger hunt for Replicas, in the largest museum in North America.
Educational clues helped kids find the original artwork IRL and replicate it in AR.
Like magic, 5,000 years of art transformed from real to Roblox virtual items.
For the first time ever, kids turned their avatars into works of art.
Kids became true metaverse art collectors, and used their phone to learn a thing or two along the way.

Kids brought the Replicas they found at The Met into Roblox. And, those that couldn't make it to The Met joined in on the fun on our Met-inspired Roblox game. There, everyone could play with and learn about art like never before.
